On launch day I lined up at the Ballard Fred Meyer's, and was the first person in line who did not get one.  The week later I got to the store near where my parents live 2 hours early, but they had already marked them to sell to people who slept there overnight.  So I went to the next town over and missed getting one there by about 10 minutes (one of the people in the other line got one).

But finally, I got up at 6 am and trudged to the northgate Target.  There was already a lineup, but it wasn't really substantial.  I was quite reassured by the person ahead of me in line who was actually a Target employee.  If waited in line on his day off, I think he could be believed when he said they had plenty of units.  And sure enough, I got ticket #18 out of the 42 Wiis they had in stock.  The last person to get a ticket got there around 7:15 so I think I had good judgment about what time to get there... certainly better than the people at the front who apparently slept there all night.

I got two games with my console, Excite Truck and Red Steel.  Red Steel has received mediocre reviews but I really wanted a sword fighting game so I got it anyhow.  It deserves it's mediocre rating, navigation and aiming are quite difficult and thus far anyhow the plot is unimpressive.  Hopefully I get better at this, but since it's Ubisoft I shouldn't really expect much eh?  What the hell was I thinking!

On the other hand, Excite Truck is totally frigging awesome!  You hold the controller sideways and "steer" it somewhat like a car.  Over the jumps you can lean back/forward/left/right to tilt how your truck will land.  It's a pretty unrealistic driving simulator but fun as hell.  The controller feels so natural in this game sometimes I'd forget I was driving and veer off a cliff because I didn't bother steering.  Oops!

And of course, Wii Sports.  I deliberately did not play this to death because I want to actually play this with my lovely wife.  I figure if I get stupidly good at it she won't ever want to play with me so I'm just going to play it casually instead of applying my usual gamer's bloodlust.  So far we've tried Tennis and Bowling.  Tennis was a lot of fun, I didn't really get into bowling much as I didn't see the connection between what I was doing and what the result was.  I'll have to mess with the training though before I really judge it finally of course.

I can't wait for Animal Crossing Wii.
